A woman accused in a 2012 stabbing death has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Ashley Marie Antone admitted to stabbing and killing Kaitlin Chico on Tucson’s east side in May 2012.

“I stabbed her in the neck,” Antone told Pima County Superior Court Judge Howard Fell in a barely audible voice at a hearing on Tuesday.

Antone, 21, and boyfriend Emmanuel Arie Rivera, 22, were driving with the victim near Broadway and Craycroft Road on May 29, 2012, when other motorists called 911 to report seeing three people fighting in a moving vehicle.

Police located and followed the car, driven by Rivera, to parking lot near Broadway and Craycroft. Rivera and Antone fled the vehicle.

Antone was arrested a short time later.

Other responding officers drove to an alley in a nearby neighborhood where the car was seen fleeing. There, the officers found Chico, 16, fatally wounded.

Rivera was not initially arrested in the case, but in December 2012 he also was charged with second-degree murder. Their trials were later severed.

Antone had a previous conviction for attempted burglary.

She was charged in that case in 2011 and originally participated in a diversion from prosecution program that involved counseling and drug testing.

Following the arrest in Chico’s killing, she was removed from the diversion program and sentenced to two years’ probation in August 2012.

A presentence report in the case said she was the victim of sexual abuse as a child, spent more than three years in foster care and had a child at 14.

Her sentencing on the manslaughter plea is scheduled for June 23.

Rivera is scheduled to face trial in November.
