A woman suspected in the March 8 shooting death of a south-side man has been arrested.

Cassandra Evonne Salaz, 36, was arrested Wednesday morning at a motel in the 1000 block of South Freeway by members of the U.S. Marshals Service-Arizona Wanted Violent Offender Task Force, said Sgt. Chris Widmer, spokesman for the Tucson Police Department.

She was booked into the Pima County jail and is facing a charge of first-degree murder.

Salaz is one of three suspects in the shooting death of 41-year-old Juan Barrios. The victim was shot just after midnight March 8 at his home in the 2000 block of South Campbell Avenue, south of East Silverlake Road, Widmer said. Barrios died at a hospital several hours later.

"Detectives have determined that Ms. Salaz and two other suspects entered the home and confronted the victim, who was then shot and killed," Widmer said.

Between five and 10 people were at the home when the shooting occurred. Before police arrived, some of the witnesses left and some stayed, Widmer said.

Detectives are still looking for two other suspects.

Anyone with information about the shooting or the other suspects is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
