A 64-year-old woman leaving a Foothills area Subway restaurant fended off a would-be robber on New Year's Day, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said.

At about 12:30 p.m. the woman was leaving the fast-food restaurant at 4768 E. Sunrise Drive when a man approached and tried to take her purse, the agency said in a news release.

The woman grabbed the man's hooded sweatshirt and attempted to wrestle the purse back from him.

The robber ran off with the purse and was last seen driving away in a faded green Honda Civic, the department said.

The woman was able to find her purse and none of its contents were missing. She suffered minor arm and shoulder injuries in the scuffle.

Anyone with information about the man can call 88-CRIME or 911.
