A shoplifter caught with a purse full of merchandise assaulted a store employee with a soda can before fleeing, authorities said.

Detectives from the Pima County Sheriff's Department are looking for the woman described as in her 20s with reddish hair.

The woman was seen at about 12:30 p.m. Jan. 11, by employees of the TJ Maxx store, 6230 N. Oracle Road, putting clothing - including shoes and underwear - in her purse, Deputy Tom Peine, spokesman for the Pima County Sheriff's Department, said in a news release.

"When the loss-prevention employee of the store confronted the suspect, she pushed him out of the way and then threw a soda can at him, striking him in the chest," Peine said.

Anyone with information about the identity or the whereabouts of the woman should call 911 or 88-CRIME.
