An 18-year-old woman was struck by two cars and killed when she ran across Interstate 19 Sunday night.

The woman, suspected of being an illegal immigrant, was struck while running across the southbound lanes of I-19 south of Amado around 7:15 p.m., said Officer Raul Molina, an Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman.

The woman was part of a group of suspected illegal immigrants that Border Patrol agents were attempting to stop after receiving a report from a mobile surveillance system, said Agent Jason Rheinfrank, a Border Patrol spokesman.

The woman was not being pursued by agents when she was struck on the interstate, Rheinfrank said.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.
