New Spirit church plans rummage sale

A rummage sale from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at New Spirit Lutheran Church will feature clothing, bedding, toys, books, household goods and more.

The church is at 8701 E. Old Spanish Trail. For more information call 296-2461.

Lifestyle conference set for women over 50

Tucson women 50 and older can sign up for a conference that explores the benefits of exercise and managing stress, and learn about mind-body connections to stay healthy and engaged at all stages of life.

The conference runs 9 a.m.-2:15 p.m. Oct. 10 in the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church meeting hall, 8051 E. Broadway.

Four local experts will explore a range of related topics. Among them: “The Mind-Body Connection,” “Fitness at 50 and Beyond,” “Managing Stress and Anxiety With Traditional Chinese Therapies” and “Get in Gear — Taking Charge of Your Personal Health.”

Cost is $10 per person. Reservations will be accepted through Friday. Register online at pcoa.org/women-conference or call Tucson Medical Center Healthy Living Connections, Senior Services, at 324-1960.

Veterans programs

to benefit from sale

VFW Post 549 and its Ladies Auxiliary are holding a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 10-12 at the Post Home, 8424 E. Old Spanish Trail.

The sale will include clothing, linens, small appliances, books, puzzles, electronics, jewelry, kitchenware and  household items.

Admission is free and the proceeds are used for VFW programs to benefit veterans.

Luther, Reformation topics of 2 forums

The Lutheran Church of the Foothills is offering two Sunday Adult and Youth Forums this month on the topics of Martin Luther and the Reformation.

Susan Karant-Nunn,  director of the Division for Late Medieval and Reformation Studies at the University of Arizona, will be the  speaker. Karant-Nunn is a renowned scholar and author in Reformation history and modern theory concerning medieval history.

On Sunday she will speak about Martin Luther’s wife, Katharina von Bora. On Oct. 13, Karant-Nunn will discuss more about Martin Luther.

Both of the forums are free and open to the public. They will be in the church activities room from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m.

for Vail Country Fair

The Greater Vail Area Chamber of Commerce is presenting the Fifth Annual Vail Country Fair from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Pima County Fairgrounds, 11300 S. Houghton Road.

The event is free and open to the public. There is no charge for parking.

The fair will include entertainment, kids games, food, beer and things for sale.
