Academy Village, a 55-and-older community at 13701 E. Old Spanish Trail, will hold a patio sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, with more than 100 households participating.
More than 700 people browsed and bought at the community’s last sale in 2010. Organized by the village activities committee, this is the community’s fifth sale since 2004.
Sale goods will be organized into 10 categories, such as clothing/shoes/jewelry, electronics/office supplies and media (audio, video, books).
In addition to filling the patio between the center and the Arizona Senior Academy Building, sale goods will be displayed in a large activity room and one of the dining rooms in the village community center.
Proceeds from the patio sales support activities for residents such as staff appreciation socials, and turkeys and ham for Thanksgiving and Christmas potlucks as well as expenses such as printing costs for the monthly community newspaper, Village Voices.
The retirement community, conceived by Henry Koffler, president-emeritus of the University of Arizona, is focused on lifelong learning and wellness. Its Arizona Senior Academy, with close ties to the university, offers weekly lectures and concerts open to the public free of charge. For a schedule of programs go to www.asa-tucson.org
