A $2.2 million grant will bring eight school resource officers to TUSD campuses in the fall.

The three-year grant from the Arizona Department of Education will allow the district to place SROs from the Tucson Police Department at Utterback Magnet Middle School, Booth-Fickett K-8 Magnet School, Catalina, Cholla, Palo Verde, Pueblo, Santa Rita and Tucson high schools.

School Resource Officers build relationships with students and teach law-related education.

The Tucson Unified School District hopes to have the officers in place by early September.
