Longtime TUSD Governing Board Member Adelita Grijalva will retain the president’s seat for another year after receiving unanimous approval Tuesday.
This will be Grijalva’s second consecutive term as president. Cam Juarez nominated Grijalva to retain the seat, with Kristel Foster seconding the motion.
While the vote was unanimous, TUSD Governing Board Member Mark Stegeman voted yes only if Grijalva agreed to meet with individual board members regularly to “improve the operation of the board.”
Foster noted that over the last year, the board has made strides and is working well, saying it’s the right thing to maintain Grijalva’s leadership.
Foster, who served as clerk in 2013, also was nominated to continue in that position. She was approved with a 4-1 vote — Michael Hicks was the dissenting vote.
The Tucson Unified School District Governing Board elects a president and clerk at the beginning of each calendar year.
