Three people were injured when a small Sahuarita school bus struck a parked tractor-trailer rig at the Canoa rest area on Interstate 19 on Monday afternoon.
At about 1:30 the mini school bus was northbound on I-19 when it suffered a tire blowout, according to the Department of Public Safety. The driver lost control and swerved to the right, off the interstate and through a fence. The bus then hit the rig, which was stopped at the rest stop, DPS said.
The bus driver and an aide suffered serious injuries and were taken to the University of Arizona Medical Center. The rig’s driver was taken to UAMC and was treated and released.
There were no children aboard the bus, said the Sahuarita Unified School District.
