Letter grades and AIMS scores will be released for Arizona schools today.

The Arizona Department of Education will release the school performance reports to the public at 10 a.m.

AIMS scores are based on testing for students in third through eighth grades and also for the 10th grade in the areas of math, reading, writing and science.

Statewide last year, 60 percent of students passed math, 77 percent passed reading, 57 percent passed writing and 60 percent passed the science portion.

Letter grades, which are awarded to individual schools and districts as a whole, are based on student performance on AIMS and student academic growth from year to year. There are also considerations for high English-language learner reclassifications and significant reductions in dropout rates.

By 2014, AIMS will be replaced by a different test - the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers - which can be compared with tests in other states.

On StarNet: The results will be posted at www.azstarnet.com as soon as they are made public.
