A Pima Community College instructor has won a $30,000 national prize aimed at supporting excellence among emerging female writers.

Poet Margaree Little is one of six recipients of the 2013 Rona Jaffe Foundation writer’s award.

The prize is given “in recognition of the special contributions women writers make to our culture and society,” the foundation’s website says.

Little has taught writing at PCC as an adjunct instructor since last spring. She also works as a reading tutor in the Pima County library system.

Her poetry has appeared or is due to run in a number of publications, including the American Poetry Review, the Southern Review and the New England Review.

The awards were founded in 1995 by the late novelist Jaffe, who died in 2005 at age 74.
