Benefit walk/run is Saturday at school

St. Gregory College Preparatory School is putting on a 12-hour walk/run event Saturday.

Funds from the event will go toward scholarships and to help a group of St. Gregory students build a classroom in Kenya this summer.

The event is from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the school, 3231 N. Craycroft Road. It is open to all ages and all abilities.

Registration is $25, or $20 per person for teams of 10 or more.

Tucson High holding event for new students

Tucson High Magnet School will host an orientation Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

The meeting is for incoming Tucson High students and parents.

Families will be able to tour the campus, 400 N. Second Ave. For more information, call 225-5125.

Congressman's office seeking art entries

Southern Arizona high school students are invited to submit artwork for the annual congressional art competition. The deadline is 5 p.m. April 12.

The winning piece will be exhibited in the halls of the Capitol Building in Washington for the next year.

The winning Southern Arizona student will receive two airline tickets to fly to Washington for the opening of the exhibition this spring.

Submit artwork to U.S. Rep. Ron Barber's Tucson office, 3945 E. Fort Lowell Road, Suite 211, 85712, or the Sierra Vista office, 77 Calle Portal, Suite B-160, 85635.

The contest is open to high school students living in the 2nd congressional district.

Flinn Scholars info focus of Tues. event

The Flinn Scholars Program will host an informational meeting Tuesday to discuss 2014 scholarships.

The meeting will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the University of Arizona's Social Sciences Building, Room 100, 1112 E. South Campus Drive. It is geared toward students who will graduate in 2014.

Minimum qualifications include a 3.5 grade-point average, 1300 on the reading and math sections of the SAT 1 or 29 on the ACT, and participation and demonstrated leadership in extracurricular activities.
