Students' fruit, veggie wash honored

A team of middle school students from Sonoran Science Academy-Tucson who created a fruit and vegetable washing solution has been named finalist for the 2013 Edison Awards.

The event will be held in Chicago Wednesday and Thursday.

Kate Ciaramello, Emma Galligan, Robert Gauthier, Jose Hernandez, Liam Koenneker, Zakaria Lamri, Quincy Lyons and Nathan Vandivort created a solution that removes wax and kills bacteria and mold trapped beneath the wax.

The contest recognizes some of the most innovative new products, services and business leaders in America.
