Students' fruit, veggie wash honored

A team of middle school students from Sonoran Science Academy-Tucson who created a fruit and vegetable washing solution has been named finalist for the 2013 Edison Awards.

The event will be held in Chicago Wednesday and Thursday.

Kate Ciaramello, Emma Galligan, Robert Gauthier, Jose Hernandez, Liam Koenneker, Zakaria Lamri, Quincy Lyons and Nathan Vandivort created a solution that removes wax and kills bacteria and mold trapped beneath the wax.

The contest recognizes some of the most innovative new products, services and business leaders in America.

Yard sale helps band at Catalina Foothills

The Catalina Foothills High School Band Boosters are holding their fifth annual yard sale Saturday.

The sale will be in the school parking lot, 4300 E. Sunrise Drive, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Proceeds will support all aspects of the band program, including marching and concert bands, jazz, steel drum and small ensembles.

Sellers keep the money they raise.
