Prom-O-Rama seeks dresses for teens

Tucson College is collecting new and gently used prom dresses for Pima County high school girls.

The effort, dubbed Prom-O-Rama, will allow community members to sell dresses they no longer use at an affordable price to students in need.

Dresses can be dropped off at the Tucson College campus, 5151 E. Broadway, Suite 155, now through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The seller sets the price and receives the money from the sale. Prices will vary, but will be much less than buying a dress at a retail store.

More than 300 dresses have already been promised by vendors, priced between $30 and $40.

The sale will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the campus.

Other vendors, including tailors and salon services, will be on hand.

La Paloma carnival supports science, tech

La Paloma Academy is holding a rodeo break carnival to raise funds for classroom science programs and technological equipment.

The third annual Ride 'Em Rodeo Carnival will be at the school's Lakeside campus, 8140 E. Golf Links Road.

The event is open to the public and will feature carnival rides, games, prizes and food.

Arm bands for unlimited rides are available for pre-sale for $15 in the La Paloma Academy school office. The arm band will not be sold at the carnival.

Event hours are:

• Thursday: 5 to 10 p.m.

• Friday and Saturday: Noon to 11 p.m.

• Sunday: Noon to 7 p.m.

Last year, the school collected $5,000 to update technology in K-8 classrooms.
