Free McDonald's food for AIMS test takers

Third- through eighth-graders taking the AIMS test can enjoy a free breakfast at McDonald's today and Tuesday.

The breakfast offer will run from 6 to 9 a.m. and includes an Egg McMuffin, apple slices and a choice of 1% milk, fat-free chocolate milk or a small orange juice.

Students must be accompanied by a parent, and there are no substitutions.

Two local seniors up for Coca-Cola honor

Two Tucson-area seniors have been named finalists for the 2013 Coca-Cola Scholarship.

Braden Whitaker of Ironwood Ridge High School and Erica Schwarz of Sahuarita High School are among five Arizona students selected as finalists.

On Thursday, the pair will join 250 other finalists from across the country at the international headquarters of the Coca-Cola Co. in Atlanta to compete for college scholarships worth $10,000 and $20,000.

All finalists will interview with a national selection committee, tour landmarks and participate in a community service project.

Academy of Tucson info sessions Tuesday

The Academy of Tucson Schools will hold open house events at all three of its campuses Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m.

The academy's elementary School, 9209 E. Wrightstown Road, serves grades K-4; the middle school, 7310 E. 22nd St., grades 5-8; and the high school, 10720 E. 22nd St., grades 9-12.

Highland welcomes prospective parents

Highland Free School is hosting an open house for prospective parents Wednesday.

Families can meet the school staff, tour the campus and learn about the school's curriculum from 4 to 6 p.m.

The school, 510 S. Highland Ave., is a charter serving kindergarten through grade five.

Desert Sky to host open house Saturday

Desert Sky Community School is hosting an open house Saturday for prospective families.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to noon at 1350 N. Arcadia Ave.

Desert Sky is a tuition-free charter school serving kindergarten through fifth grade.

It is inspired by Waldorf Education, which emphasizes teaching appropriate to the child's developmental level.
