Elena Quiroga stands in the one-room schoolhouse she went to as a child from 1939-48 with her husband Ramon on Monday, August 24, 2009, in the border town of Lochiel, Ariz. The Quirogas, along with relatives, are working to restore and preserve the historic structure that may have been built around 1918.  Elena is a member of the De La Ossa family, long-time residents of the area.  Her great-grandparents, Antonio and Carolina De La Ossa, homesteaded in Lochiel arriving in a covered wagon from California. Thinking they were in Mexico, their home is actually around 200 yards away from the Mexican border on the Arizona side.  At one time Lochiel was an official port of entry but it was closed during the Reagan administration.
