Eight Pima County JTED students won scholarships at the Careers Through Culinary Arts Program final competition.

Nicole Carpenter, a senior at Canyon del Oro High School, earned a full-tuition scholarship for the Art Institute of Tucson valued at $50,000.

The following students won $2,000 scholarships:

• Jason Garcia of JTED @ Santa Rita Culinary Arts. He also won a paid internship at Canyon Ranch Resort.

• Deb Kitchens of JTED @ Santa Rita Culinary Arts. She also won an additional $1,000 scholarship and a paid internship at a local restaurant of her choice.

• Zulema Contreras of the JTED Culinary Arts program at Flowing Wells High School.

Preston Fredrick and Luis Magallon from JTED @ Mountain View, Matthew Breitwieser of Flowing Wells and Bryn Timmas from Canyon del Oro won scholarships to attend a master class at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Scottsdale.

The Careers through Culinary Arts Program works with public schools across the country.

Rep. Grijalva calls for student artwork

U.S. Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva is accepting student submissions for the 2013 Congressional Art Competition.

Each year, one piece of art by a student from each congressional district is selected to hang in the Capitol.

Submissions are due April 18. Grijalva will announce the winner May 2.
