The Sunnyside school board has called an unexpected meeting for Tuesday to discuss whether to renew Superintendent Manuel Isquierdo's contract.

Last week, the board agreed by a 4-1 vote that Isquierdo met 93 percent of his performance goals and would receive that percentage of his $7,500 performance pay.

The board did not discuss his contract.

Isquierdo's contract expires in June 2014, and he is seeking a three-year extension.

Isquierdo's misuse of a district credit card and personal financial troubles are among the issues for which the superintendent has faced criticism since taking over the district in 2007.

Tuesday's meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Sunnyside administration building, 2238 E. Ginter Road.

The board will begin in executive session then hold a public session for a possible vote, said board member Buck Crouch.
