U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will be in Tucson next month as part of the “Strong Start, Bright Future” back-to-school bus tour.

While the details of his Tucson visit have not been finalized, Duncan will meet with teachers, parents, students and educational leaders who are striving to improve student outcomes.

The Sunnyside Unified School District says it is one of two scheduled stops Duncan will make in the Tucson area. He will attend a technology expo at Sunnyside High School, the district said.

He will highlight the importance of ensuring that all students benefit from high-quality educational opportunities, specifically focusing on preschool for all, college affordability and the impact of comprehensive immigration reform on education, among other issues.

The tour will begin Sept. 9 in Santa Fe, N.M., followed by stops in Albuquerque and Socorro, N.M.

On Sept. 10, he’ll make his way to El Paso and to Columbus, N.M.

On Sept. 11, Duncan will hold events in Tucson and Tempe before traveling to Phoenix, Scottsdale and Yuma on Sept. 12.

The tour will conclude on Sept. 13 in Chula Vista, Calif.
