The Sunnyside Unified School District Governing Board elected new officers at a special meeting last week.
Daniel Hernandez Jr. was elected president and Buck Crouch was elected clerk in a unanimous vote in a meeting that lasted seven minutes last Thursday.
Crouch said it’s common to elect new officers when new members join the board.
The board’s former clerk Louie Gonzales was ousted in a recall election targeting him and board member Bobby Garcia, who was also voted out.
Eric Giffin and Beki Quintero, who unseated Gonzales and Garcia in the May election, were sworn by Pima County School Superintendent Linda Arzoumanian at their first meeting on Tuesday.
Last week the board also voted to change the dates of its regular meetings. The board will now meet on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the district’s headquarters, 2238 E. Ginter Road.
The new meeting days better fit with board members’ schedules, Crouch said last week.
An agenda for this week’s meeting has not been posted yet.
