The Tucson Unified School District board has approved $210,000-a-year annual contract for incoming superintendent H.T. Sanchez.

Sanchez, who has until 5 p.m. Saturday to sign the agreement, will receive a total compensation of $247,000, including car, retirement and other allowances.

Outgoing Superintendent John Pedicone was paid $211,000, with a total compensation package of about $256,000.

The board met in closed executive session for more than three hours over two days before emerging to announce the agreement.

The contract was approved just three days before the board of the Ector County Independent School District, where Sanchez is now interim superintendent, is scheduled to consider offering him the permanent superintendent’s position there.
