Talk set on Maccabean Jews and Greeks

The Sally & Ralph Duchin Campus Lecture Series invites the public to a free talk, “Yavneh-Yam. Greeks and Jews in Maccabean Times: Adaptation, Assimilation, and Resistance” by Moshe Fisher, of  Tel Aviv University. The talk is at 5:30 p.m. today at the University of Arizona’s Hillel Foundation, 1245 E. Second St.

Discussion on atheism

FreeThought Arizona and Secular Humanist Jewish Circle will co-host free talks beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday in DuVal Auditorium at University Medical Center, 1501 N. Campbell Ave.

Jerry DeWitt will speak at 9 a.m., by video link on “From Christian Ministry to Atheism.” David Silverman, president of American Atheists, will provide two lectures including one at 10 a.m. on hard-line atheism, “Why Firebrand Atheism is Humanistic, Ethical and Downright Nice,” and at 1:30 p.m., “Why I Am an Atheist and So Are You.”
