Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument is proposing increased park entrance and camping fees.

An amenity fee for the Ajo Mountain Drive van tour, which has been free of charge, is also proposed.

The proposed fees increase will be the first for Organ Pipe since 2005, with the exception of a partial implementation of the 2014 National Park Service fee structure when the monument’s backcountry reopened in 2015.

“The increase in fees would allow the park to continue to protect, preserve, improve facilities and services and share the special places here at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument with current and future visitors,” said Acting Superintendent Rijk Morawe. “Increasing the fees will bring the park into compliance with the current nationwide National Park Service fee structure and address many unfunded needs to improve the overall visitor experience.”

The vehicle entrance fee of $12 would increase to $20. The motorcycle fee of $12 would see a $3 increase. The fee for walk-ins and bicyclists would more than double from $4 per person to $10.

The cost of the Twin Peaks campground would go from $16 per night to $20 — for seniors, the $8 fee would rise to $10.

The Alamo Canyon campground fee would go from $10 per night to $12 — for seniors, the $5 fee would rise to $6.

The cost of group camping — currently $5 per person with a six person minimum — would be a flat $50 per night.

The park is also proposing a new $5 charge, an amenity fee for the Ajo Mountain Drive van tours typically offered January through March. The three-hour tour is free of charge, can accommodate up to 10 visitors and is led by a member of the park staff. If adopted, the fee would be used to offset park expenses for the tour.

Owners of valid federal passes such as the Senior Pass, Access Pass, Military Pass, and other America the Beautiful Annual Passes are admitted free of charge under the established guidelines. The passes will continue to be available and honored at the park.
