A fire tore through an auto repair shop in the 800 block of West Grant Road late Wednesday night, requiring a two-alarm response from Tucson Fire to control the blaze.

The cause of a fire that engulfed the business, Precision Engineering, is under investigation, according to the Tucson Fire Department.

Multiple calls were made to 911 before midnight reporting a building on fire in the 800 block of West Grant Road.

When Tucson Fire Department units arrived, they reported heavy black smoke pouring from the auto repair shop, a news release said.

The crew forced its way into a front door to search the building and begin extinguishing the flames, but the commanding officer decided to fight the fire from outside because of the amount of fire that had come through the roof and appeared to be above the firefighters.

Fifteen units and more than 40 firefighters were dispatched to the scene.

The origin of the fire is under investigation, with no determination made yet as to a damage estimate, said TFD spokesman Barrett Baker.
