A woman and her dog were able to escape a fire Thursday morning after the resident was awakened by popping noises and found her midtown house in flames, a fire official said.

Crews were sent at 7:17 a.m. to the home in the 4200 block of East Pima Street, at North Bryant Avenue, after callers to 911 reported smoke and flames coming from the red-brick home.

Even before firefighters arrived, a Tucson police officer driving in the area saw the smoke and went to investigate.

Also displaced were a 51-year-old man and 16-year-old boy.
