A fire that scorched 553 acres of ranch land southeast of Tucson was fully contained Sunday.

The O’Donnell Canyon Fire was ignited by a lightning strike Saturday afternoon near Elgin, about 55 miles from Tucson.

The fire started around 3 p.m. on the Babacomari Ranch, south of the Mustang Mountains and about 2 ƒ miles north and west of Fort Huachuca.

Crews built a perimeter around the fire and were able to keep it from expanding, said Kevin Venos, battalion chief for the Sonoita-Elgin Fire Department.

No structures were threatened.

About 50 personnel, two engines, a tender and two hand crews helped contain the blaze Sunday.
