Foothills High band wins honors at 2 Ariz. events

Oct. 26 was a big day for the Catalina Foothills High School marching band, which won high honors in competitions in Flagstaff and Tucson.

The day started in Flagstaff at Northern Arizona University Band Day, where the Foothills group earned a top-tier “Superior” rating after performing its show “Losing Waldo.”

After the awards ceremony, the band bused back to Tucson to participate in University of Arizona Band Day at Arizona Stadium. There it received a “Superior With Distinction” rating.

The 230-member band is led by director Renee Shane-Boyd. It will march in the Prescott Holiday Parade on Dec. 7.

San Xavier Mission to be topic of luncheon talk

Vern Lamplot, executive director of the Patronato Foundation, will address the American Association of University Women at a luncheon that will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at Amber Restaurant, 7000 E. Tanque Verde Road.

Lamplot will discuss the restoration of the San Xavier Mission. Cost of the luncheon is $22.
