Friends of Music at St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church again presents its popular summer concert series, beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday in the church.

The Ironwood Trio - Ji Sun Lee, Michael Lich and Robert Matheson - will perform an afternoon of music from classics to original compositions.

The concert will feature works by Debussy, Isaac, Piazzolla and Vivaldi as well as the premiere of Michael Lich's new composition "Trio Sonata" for classical guitar, double bass and organ.

Lee, organist and pianist, was born in Seoul, South Korea, where she began her musical study at age 4. She is an exceptional international artist and has won top prizes in several competitions, including first prizes in the President's Concerto Competition at the University of Arizona and the Contemporary Music Society Competition at Arizona State University.

Lee has taught at Cochise College in Sierra Vista and at the UA, and currently serves as music director at Lutheran Church of the Risen Savior, Green Valley.

Lich is an eclectic musician, a classical guitarist and banjo-player, arranger and composer, who performs a wide variety of musical styles including classical, jazz and bluegrass. He has released four CDs, performed in places ranging from Skagway, Alaska, to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to Seoul, South Korea, to Frankfurt, Germany, and made radio and television appearances.

Lich teaches guitar at the Academy of Music and Dance of Tucson/Oro Valley, Lead Guitar and Pima Community College.

Matheson is a double bassist and composer, incorporating elements of classical, jazz, folk and rock into his original works. He has performed in Mexico and the U.S. and has been featured in radio broadcasts and podcasts. Matheson lives in St. George, Utah, where he teaches at Dixie State College.

Admission is by donation to St. Philip's Friends of Music. It's a $15 suggested donation, but no one is turned away for not paying.
