You can have a box of documents shredded for free at an event today at the Ward 2 City Council Office, 7575 E. Speedway.

The event, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., is sponsored by Shred-it, a document-shredding firm, and City Councilman Paul Cunningham's office.

If you want more than one box of documents destroyed, a donation is requested of $5 per additional box, or the equivalent in nonperishable food items. Donations will go to the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.

The event is designed to prevent and raise awareness about identity theft.

Call council aide Ted Prezelski at 791-4687 for more information.
