Funeral services and a celebration of life for Refugio “Cuco” Del Cid, longtime mariachi and teacher, will be held Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Del Cid taught mariachi for more than 20 years at Sunnyside High School. He directed Los Diablitos de Sunnyside High School mariachi and the professional group, Mariachi Herencia de Cuco Del Cid. He died Jan. 6. He was 73 years old.

The family has scheduled a viewing of the body at 8:30 a.m., followed by a rosary at 9:30 and a funeral Mass at 10:30, all at St. Augustine’s Cathedral, 192 S. Stone Ave.

Later in the early afternoon, a reception will be held at Casino del Sol’s AVA Amphitheater on West Valencia Road, starting after 1 p.m.

The services and reception are open to the public.

Del Cid was one of Tucson’s best-known mariachi musicians. He performed with several of Mexico’s premier vocalists and was a member of the famed mariachi ensemble Los Camperos de Nati Cano in Los Angeles.
