Reading coach: Work one-on-one with kindergartners and first- through third-graders in schools across Pima County. Coaches make reading fun and interesting for kids who are reading below grade level and help them become independent readers who are excited about learning. Coaches choose the days and times that are most convenient for them.
Special-outings companion: A new behavioral-health unit needs volunteers to assist in its reintegration program by accompanying staff and residents into the community. This will provide residents with the opportunity to practice skills they have learned in therapy. Must be 18. Groups or individuals are welcome.
Clean and shiny: Like to see things organized and sparkle? A 26-acre retreat/meditation center on the northwest side has several buildings that need light housekeeping. All tools and materials are provided. Volunteers can help out once, or weekly, monthly or every other month. Volunteers are welcome to enjoy the library, paths and meditation areas.
Story hour conductor: This is an opportunity to engage with families and read books aloud with children up to age 4 and their caregivers, enjoy music and crafts, and share a love of literacy with the community Friday mornings at Anamax Park in Sahuarita. Volunteers must complete an interview, half-hour training and a background check.
