The Eckstrom-Columbus Branch Library will be closed for an expansion and renovation project starting Sunday evening.

The library will reopen in its temporary home on Sept. 24 at the former Roberts Elementary School campus, 4355 E. Calle Aurora, south and east of East 29th Street and South Columbus Boulevard.

Hours are unchanged, but services will be limited, and only a small number of materials will be available for checkout.

By the numbers

$1.9 million - Total project budget, using Pima County bond funds

$774,000 - Construction cost, paid for from 2004 Pima County bonds

35 years - Age of the building

52 - New computers will be available in the expanded space

16,000 - Square feet in the expanded space, up from 11,000 square feet

3 things to know

• There will be 16 computers available for public use at the temporary location.

• Story times, homework help and computer classes won't be offered during construction.

• There is no after-hours book drop at the temporary location, but books may be returned to other library branches.
