Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik and Pima County Attorney Barbara LaWall issued a joint announcement Thursday that they are both seeking re-election.

Dupnik, 76, is seeking his ninth term; LaWall, 66, is seeking her fifth term.

Four Republicans have announced plans to run against Dupnik - Terry Frederick, Vinson K. Holck, Chester Manning and Walter M. Setzer.

No one has declared to be seeking LaWall's seat.

Education: University of Arizona

Political experience: 32 years as Pima County sheriff

Top priority: Continue to improve response times; maintain low crime rate compared with other cities; maintain and improve jail.

Candidate Announcement

Name: Barbara LaWall

Party: Democrat

Age: 66

Employer and position: Pima County, county attorney

Education: Bachelor of arts, University of Arizona (1967); juris doctor UA College of Law (1976)

Political experience: county attorney

Top priority: To implement an early case disposition program and use courthouse dogs to assist vulnerable victims.
