Rep. Raúl Grijalva, a Democrat from Arizona, was arrested today along with fellow congressmen and activists for blocking the street in front of the U.S. Capitol in a statement of support for immigration reform.

The “Camino Americano: March for Dignity and Respect,” was held to demand House Republican leadership to pass comprehensive immigration reform with a path to citizenship, organizers said.

Grijalva, together with about 200 others, took the rally a step further and blocked the street as a sign of civil disobedience.

Grijalva wanted to highlighting the fact that immigration reform has been put in the back burner by some in Congress.

“He wants to make sure people who support immigration reform know he is still with them,” said his spokesman Adam Sarvana. “To show them he believes in it as strongly as they do.”
