Republican Shelley Kais of Green Valley announced she is exploring a run for Congress in District 2, and she filed candidate paperwork last week.

She will face Republicans Martha McSally and Ed Martin in the primary election. Incumbent Democrat Ron Barber is running for re-election.

Kais backed McSally in the 2012 special election to fill Gabrielle Giffords’ seat after she resigned in January 2012 because of wounds she received in a mass shooting.

Kais is president of Fairfax, Va.-based Kais E Systems Inc., a workforce training and consulting firm that has a Tucson office.
