Go-kart racing has arrived at the Mike Jacob Sports Park.

Julie and Kirk Vaughn, operators of Xtreme Fun Spot, have reopened the racetrack that was part of the Fun Spot recreation area before it closed in 1996.

Four single-seat racers, with a double-seater to come in the near future, are available to rent at the county-owned property at 6901 N. Casa Grande Highway.

The double-seat racer is designed to allow children under 10 — too young to drive on their own — to take part in the racing.

The couple also plan to reopen the miniature golf course that was part of Fun Spot by the end of the year.

A 1,200-foot BMX track opened at Xtreme Fun Spot earlier this year, although the park is best known for its recreational sports leagues.
