Republican Gary Kiehne, of Eagar, Ariz., filed paperwork Monday to run for Congress in District 1, which includes northern Pima County.

He's the first candidate to sign up to challenge Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick in the 2014 election.

Kiehne is a rancher and businessman who owns Centerfire Inns and White Mountain Kachina Realty. He previously donated money to the campaigns of Sen. John McCain and Gabriela Saucedo Mercer, a Republican who ran against Rep. Raúl Grijalva last year.

Oro Valley Republican Adam Kwasman has said he is exploring a run for Congress in District 1, but he isn't yet an official candidate.
