Precinct committee members with the Democratic Party will decide on finalists to replace State Sen. Linda Lopez late next week.

Pima County Democratic Party Chairman Don Jorgensen confirmed precinct committees in Legislative District 2 will meet on Saturday, Jan. 18, in Green Valley to decide on three names to submit to the Pima County Board of Supervisors.

Only elected precinct committeepersons living in District 2 will be allowed to nominate and select the three candidates.

Bill Roe, chairman of the Arizona Democratic Party, will oversee the process.

The Board of Supervisors is expected to decide who will ultimately replace Lopez during its Jan. 21 meeting. Her term expires at the end of the year.

Potential replacements include District 2 Rep. Andrea Dalessandro, D-Sahuarita, former state lawmaker Tom Prezelski, former Tucson Unified School District Governing Board member Miguel Cuevas, Demion Clinco, president of the Tucson Historic Preservation Foundation, and Annabelle Nuñez, an associate librarian with the Arizona Health Sciences Library at the University of Arizona.

The Jan. 18 meeting will be held in a second-floor meeting room in the Continental Shopping Plaza. It will start at 10 a.m. and be open to the public.
