So long swamp coolers, leaky windows and peeling paint.

Eight Pima County community centers are getting makeovers this spring.

The county budgeted $1.3 million for the projects. Some of the work is starting now, and all of the work should be complete by early summer.

Some centers will get security upgrades, and others will receive brighter paint colors.

"We're really just trying to put a fresh spin on them with the limited dollars we have," said Reid Spaulding, county facilities management director.
