Construction to repair the leaking Sahuarita Lake is nearing completion, and the lake is expected to re-open for boating and be restocked for fishing by late March or early April.

An inspection in July uncovered 137 instances within the wall of cracks and settling, the Star reported in October. Contractors discovered more damage, increasing the cost of repairs by about $5,000 to $250,000. The council voted to spend the extra money Monday night.

The lake has been closed to boating since construction started and has not been stocked with fish since May, said Parks and Recreation Director Debbie Summers.
