Sahuarita’s new town manager will be Kelly Udall, town manager of Pinetop-Lakeside, Ariz.
The Town Council voted unanimously in a special meeting Wednesday night to hire Udall.
“We’re pleased about Mr. Udall joining our team and our community. His expertise in strategic planning, economic development and collaboration will be a great fit for Sahuarita’s future,” Mayor Duane Blumberg said in a news release.
Udall said Sahuarita’s economic development opportunities are intriguing and he is looking forward to learning more about potential projects and getting them to completion.
Udall has managed Pinetop and Lakeside, two small towns in the White Mountains area of Eastern Arizona, since 2004. Before that he was city manager in Federal Heights, Colo. for one year and interim town manager in Payson, Ariz., for one year.
His proudest accomplishment in his job at Pinetop-Lakeside was helping the towns implement best practices in finance and budgeting, which earned the towns win awards for financial reporting six years in a row, he said.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Arizona State University and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Colorado.
Udall, 50, is married with five children and he takes pride in being a fourth-generation Arizonan.
His great-grandfather settled the town of Eagar and famous Udalls, Mo and Stewart, are his second cousins once removed.
Udall will start his new job in Sahuarita on May 13 and his salary will be $133,000.
Udall will replace Jim Stahle, who has been town manager since 2001 and was paid $141,671 last year. The Town Council voted last year not to extend his contract, which expires at the end of June.
