Tucson’s streetcar launch party will shut down parts of downtown streets Thursday and Friday.

Motorists will start seeing lane closures Thursday evening when the city will close the right lane of Congress Street between Fourth Avenue and Fifth Avenue, leaving one lane open.

Fifth Avenue between Toole Avenue and Broadway will also be closed.

Both lanes on Congress will close at 5 a.m. on Friday from Toole Avenue to Sixth Avenue in preparation for the city’s streetcar ceremony, which begins at 9 a.m.

Toole Avenue will be converted at that time to one-way, westbound travel only between Fourth Avenue and Pennington Street.

The ceremony ends at 10 a.m. and all streets should reopen by noon on Friday.
