Pima County Superior Court will have a new judge beginning in March.

Presiding Judge Sarah R. Simmons and Presiding Judge Karen S. Adam of Juvenile Court announced the appointment of Ken Sanders.

Sanders will serve as a Superior Court commissioner, filling a vacancy created by the upcoming retirement of Commissioner Margaret Maxwell.

Court commissioners fulfill the same duties as governor-appointed judges.

Sanders received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Arizona.

He was associate attorney with the law firm of Slutes, Sakrison and Hill in the areas of medical malpractice and insurance defense litigation from 2000 to 2002.

From 2002 to 2005 Sanders was a law clerk for Judge David C. Bury at U.S. District Court.

He became a partner with the firm of Sanders and Sanders in 2005, and continues to hold that position.
