A fire that broke out early Sunday morning damaged the exterior of the Greater Littletown Food Bank.

Several people called 911 around 1:30 a.m. to report smoke and flames coming from the building in the 6400 block of South Craycroft Road, near East Valencia Road, said Capt. Chris Jurvig, a Tucson Fire Department spokesman.

Several pallets outside the building caught fire and firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading inside the building, he said.

Crews also had to use a circular saw to cut open parts of the metal exterior to "extinguish hidden fire in the void spaces."

The fire was under control within five minutes.

The Pima County Health Department was also called to the fire because food was being stored inside the building.
