An 80-year-old man was fatally injured when struck by a vehicle while crossing East 22nd Street at South Longfellow Avenue Sunday morning.

The victim was identified as Hai T. Ting, said Sgt. Chris Widmer, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.

Shortly before 8 a.m., police went to a report of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian at 22nd Street and Longfellow Avenue, which is located just east of South Alvernon Way, Widmer said.

The victim was suffering critical injuries and was taken by Tucson Fire Department paramedics to a hospital where he died shortly after his arrival, said Widmer.

The driver and passenger of a 1993 Nissan truck that struck Ting were not injured.

Traffic detectives found out that the truck was headed west on 22nd Street in the inside lane, and Ting was crossing north on 22nd Street at Longfellow Avenue, Widmer said.

Ting stepped into traffic in front of the truck and was struck, said Widmer.
