A 25-year-old man was killed when his car crashed into a concrete column on Wednesday night, police said.

Shortly before 9 p.m., police and paramedics went to South Wilmot Road and the I-10 underpass for reports of a single-vehicle crash, Sgt. Pete Dugan, a Tucson Police Department spokesman, said in a news release.

Paramedics found Ryan E. Rhoades inside the vehicle and he was pronounced deceased at the scene, Dugan said.

Traffic detectives learned that Rhoades' silver 1998 Nissan Altima was speeding down Wilmot, approaching the frontage road, when Rhoades applied his brakes and the car slid into a concrete column that supports a portion of the I-10 overpass, Dugan said.

Rhoades was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, Dugan said.
