A 28-year-old man was arrested on theft charges Saturday after he allegedly stole a neighbor's Christmas decorations and led police on a high speed chase on Interstate 10, officials said.
At about 3 a.m., Marana police officers on a routine patrol of the Gladden Farms neighborhood were flagged down by a citizen who said that inflatable Christmas decorations had just been stolen from their front yard, according to a Marana Police Department news release.
The citizen provided officers with a description of the suspect's vehicle, and minutes later, police located a matching vehicle in the area of I-10 and Tangerine Road, the release said.
The driver initially fled from police at a high rate of speed, but officers located the abandoned vehicle in farm fields near Breakers Water Park a short time later. Officers set a perimeter and used a police dog to assist in the search for the suspect, the release said.
Police found Jordan Knuffke "hiding in the farm fields" and arrested him on theft-related charges, with other charges pending, the release said.
Detectives located the citizen's Christmas decorations in plain sight in Knuffke's car and also served a search warrant on the vehicle, locating stolen items from other police investigations in Marana and other jurisdictions, the release said.
Most of the recovered items have been returned to their owners, but police are still looking for the owners of two inflatable Yoda decorations that were found inside Knuffke's car, the release said.
Anyone with information about the theft of Christmas decorations or information about the owners of the Yodas is asked to call Marana police at 382-2000 or 88-CRIME, an anonymous tipster hotline.
