In Camelot they loved the merry month of May. But here in Tucson we frolic in the month of February. Snow, wind and ice are strangers here — at least so far this year. Instead, we have the sun in the morning and the moon and stars at night.

February for me begins with the birthday of my younger daughter Madi on the 7th. From there it is a hop, skip and jump to Feb. 9, my birthday.

Festivities continued on Feb. 11 when my granddaughter Jacqui married the love of her life. Although I was invited to the wedding in Prague, I was unable to go. All three of my grandchildren attended, the weather there was much warmer than anticipated, and the wedding was filled with love, laughter, excitement and awe of the city.

Jacqui’s mom, Elizabeth, said she was enthralled with the cobblestones, the ancient architecture and the food. Mostly she was grateful that most of the family was there to watch her eldest child marry.

When she sent me photos, I felt as if I, too, had attended this special event. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I looked at how beautiful my family turned out.

On Feb. 14, Netflix released the second season of “House of Cards.” If you watch this show, I’d love to hear from you. Although I’m not a television watcher, I am enthralled by Kevin Spacey’s character. Last year I watched the entire series in three days. Great fun!

On Feb. 15, I celebrated 27 years of sobriety. Each year on the anniversary of my sobriety anniversary, I think back to the events leading to giving up alcohol. It’s not pleasant to reflect on my past bad behavior but recalling how wretchedly my life deteriorated keeps me from ordering that glass of wine or popping open a bottle of champagne.

My gratitude to the women who helped in the early years intensifies each year. My ex-husband, Tom, dropped me a note congratulating me on another year of staying clean and sober. Tom’s parents were married on Feb. 15 so he never forgets to send me a congratulatory note. Hearing from him makes me smile.

Another great thing about February is that, since the Oscars are coming up, TCM airs films that won Academy Awards years ago. Being a movie buff, it is a bonanza for me to record films I haven’t seen in years, which I then watch at my leisure.

Hopefully when the summer comes and it gets hotter and hotter, instead of moaning and groaning I will remember the wonderful days of February. If I forget, I know my friends will remind me.
