After 25 years as a children’s library associate at Nanini library, Eddie Dembowski retired April 18.

Known affectionately as “Mr. Eddie,” he read four storytimes each week at the library, 7300 N. Shannon Road, helping countless children fall in love with books.

Dembowski, 52, said he plans to take care of an elderly parent who needs 24-hour care, as well as play some golf and indulge in hobbies in his spare time.

He said he will treasure his memories with the library.

“It was very rewarding because you get to see children develop and grow with literacy,” he said.

“That’s what it is all about — having them develop some social skills and a love of reading. It pays off later on.”
